One of my favorite stories in the Old Testament is about a
man named Gideon who was called by God to lead the people of Israel against an
opposing army. One day, an angel of God appeared to him and said, “Hello
Gideon, you mighty man of fearless courage.” But, Gideon didn’t think he was
capable. He was focusing on his circumstances. He tested God; he told God every reason why he
wasn’t up to the task.
I think about this often. I can just imagine Gideon looking
around thinking, “Who is he talking to? I’m not a mighty man of fearless
courage.” One translation says the angel greeted him, “Mighty hero, the Lord is
with you.” There’s the game changer, in that last part. Gideon was afraid,
intimidated, insecure; just the opposite of what the angel called him, but what
Gideon had that the enemy didn’t have was, “the Lord is with you.”
God doesn’t see you according to how you feel. He doesn’t
change His mind because of what your cynics are saying. He doesn’t call you
what YOU call you. He calls you what He’s equipped you to become! Yes, we‘re
weak in ourselves. That’s why the bible says, "For Christ's sake, I
delight in weaknesses... For when I am weak, then I am strong." Because of
Christ, you can BE strong even though you FEEL weak.
Today, no matter what has come against you: illness or injury,
financial difficulty or grief from a loss, I want you to let this sink down
deep in your spirit – the Lord is with you! God sees your future and He knows
what you’re capable of. You may feel weak, but God calls you strong. You may
feel intimidated, but God calls you confident. Get in agreement with the
Creator of the universe and start believing what He says about you and the
amazing future He’s calling you to!
